Our main focus is supporting and accommodating homeless families. These families may be two parent or single parent families but the main criteria is that there is a least one child under the age of 16 years.
CRISIS ACCOMMODATION PROGRAM: 16 of the properties that we manage aqre provided by the Department of Housing and Public Works to be used as Temporary Supported Accommodation.
The tenancies are time limited and the tenants (familes) pay rent based on 25% of their household income. This rent is used for repairs and maintenance and it is our responsibility to ensure that the properties are maintained in good repair.
NOT JUST ACCOMMODATION: the families in these properties are supported by Family Support Workers during their tenancy. (See Tenants tab for more information)
AFFORDABLE HOUSING: The four houses owned by Southside Community Care Inc. are made available to some tenants who are exiting our supported program to help them transition into independent accommodation. the rent for these properties is assessed on 75% of current market value.
THRIFT SHOP: As part of our fundraising Southside Community Care Inc runs a modest thrift shop on the office premises with modest prices.
FOOD AND OTHER ASSISTANCE: Southside Community Care Inc. focuses their resources on the families that are accommodated in our programs and their transition into affordable accommodation. Staff can suggest other organisations that may be able to offer emergency relief and No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) Program.
