Homelessness is a significant issue in our community and Southside Community Care assists two or one parent families with one child under the age of 16 and is not funded to assist single people or couples without children. Homelessness amongst families is more common than you might think. In the suburbs homelessness is less visible because families are bunking in with relatives or friends in a single room or garage, or in their car, a caravan park or other temporary accommodation. Moving around temporary accommodation makes it difficult for children to stay in regular schooling or parents to maintain regular work. Living in stable accommodation helps families become part of their local community and get involved in local schools, employment and community activities.
The causes of homelessness are broad and can affect anyone irrespective of racial or ethnic origin, political or religious affiliation and we remain non-discriminatory in our response to homelessness.
Southside Community Care responds to homelessness with time limited, supported accommodation.
